Is there a dress code at the Orangerie ?

No. Normal street clothes are fine, there are no rules. The only useful advice is practical: the building is air-conditioned and the oval rooms are cool, even in summer. An extra layer in your bag isn't a bad idea, especially if you plan to sit on the central bench.

What I wear

I cross the Tuileries almost every morning, and I dress for the garden, not for the museum. In winter, the coat goes to the free cloakroom and I keep a sweater. In summer, I take a light jacket because the first oval room, with its ceiling light and air conditioning, is surprising after the heat of the garden. Shoes matter more than the rest: the museum is small but you walk around the two ovals, two levels below, then you go back up. See visit duration

What the museum requires

Nothing about clothing. It requires a security check, ID for free tickets, and the deposit of large bags in the cloakroom, described on backpack and cloakroom. Some rooms require silence, which is a matter of behavior, not clothing.

For the guided tour

The group goes through the Tuileries Garden on the way, with moderate walking. Dress for the outdoors that day, and for the weather. The detail is on the guided tour.

The house's tip

On July 14th, the museum only opens in the afternoon and the garden is full. On other days, a hat for the garden and a sweater for the oval rooms, and you are equipped.
